Description ;
Akane is a small girl with a thin frame. There really is not all that much to her, due to malnourishment as a child and a fast metabolism that keeps her from really gaining all that weight that she was deprived of, but she honestly does not mind it that much. Her opponents sometimes underestimate her because of her size, which just gives Akane the perfect opportunity to prove just how wrong they are about her. She might be small, but she packs a powerful punch on the battlefield, all five foot, two inches and one hundred and fifteen pounds of her.
Freckles speckle her neck and arms, but strangely not her face, which is pale and clean except for her heavily-applied eye liner, the only make-up that she allows herself to wear. Other make-up just seems pretentious and used to only hide your flaws, but she sees eye liner as something that draws attention to her ruby red eyes, which are her favorite physical aspect of herself. Akane uses them to stare down the competition, and adores their intimidation factor. Obviously lacking in the size department, she will use anything she can to bring an opponent down to her own level. She had long orange hair that stops near her mid-back. Akane typically wears her hair free, except during a battle where she always pulls it back in a messy ponytail to keep it out of her face so that she can focus on the battle rather than pushing her annoying hair out of her face every other minute.
Her clothing style leans more towards the punk rock edge of fashion. She likes mini-skirts, skinny jeans and short-shorts, and tank tops and hoodies. She generally always wears either a hoodie over a tank top or a long-sleeved shirt to hide the scars of past self-abuse and the abuse that she endured from both her parents. She also wears funky knee-high socks to hide the many knicks and bruises she receives from training in the forest. Her clothes consist of a wide variety colors, either clashing against each other, blending in perfect harmony, or being all the same color. Typically she seems to favor bright neons, red, and black. She also loves sneakers and skater shoes, but occasionally wears.
Personality ;
Hot-headed, sarcastic, and fiery, Akane is one force to be reckoned with and inexperienced trainers that wish to challenge her gym sometimes mistake her for being a fire specialist rather than a poison-type gym leader. Akane is the type that does not think about or consider what she says before spewing out angered words when upset, her tongue as venomous as her seviper. When it comes to her battle style, she sees mercy as a weakness, and never displays it in her tactical method, which is one of brute strength and offense, only taking the time to poison her opponents before pulling out the heavy-hitting moves. She is all about taking chances and making risks on the battle field, which is the opposite of how she actually is outside of the gym. Akane is secretly terrified of the world and never leaves home without her Pokemon, nor ventures further than Saffron or Pewter City unless it is required of her to do so, which she does so reluctantly. She has always wanted to leave the region and journey to Johto, but she knows that will probably never be an option for her. She rarely ever takes chances and sticks to the patterns in life she has gotten herself ingrained in.
Her sharp tongue causes Akane to have quite a difficult time making friends, which is perfectly fine by her. She doesn't need friends anyway. She is a firm believer that she can take care of herself. She has been doing for years, even before her adoptive father passed away. Akane might not have many friends, but she sure does have more than her fair share of enemies. Because of her lack of tact and filter when it comes to words, she has lost many friends just because she does not have the ability to feel guilty or that she had done anything wrong when she might have said something incredibly offense or hurtful.
Of course, there are some redeeming qualities that she has, but you have to look past her hardened barrier first to see them. Akane is determined and cares greatly for her pokemon, and gives them the best treatment she possibly can. She rarely ever keeps them in their pokèballs and rather has an entire branch of her gym set up for them. They are more her family than her actually family ever was to her. Akane also can play it nice with the few people that can manage to win her respect, namely those who manage to defeat her in a battle, which she is so arrogant her battling skills that anyone who manages to win against her is sure to impress her. Even with her high opinion of herself, she knows she can still improve and is not stupid enough to turn down a perfectly good opportunity to learn more from someone who obviously knows more than she does.
An interesting thing about akane is that she cannot read or spell anything but her name. Other than that, it is all greek to her. It is one of the few things about herself that she is rather self-conscious and defensive about, and goes to great lengths to hide it from those around her, not wanting to see this weakness to her.

History ;
Akane was born right outside of Pallet Town, a generally peaceful and quaint town where everyone tends to know everyone and where gossip spreads like wildfire. Fortunately for Akane's parents, they never had to worry about anyone ever gossiping about them behind their backs. They had built their little log house, free from any electronic devices or those nasty and disgusting Pokemon due to the electric fence that had been built around the house, far enough away that if they wanted to remain hidden, they would remain hidden.
Her parents had old-fashioned beliefs, as they liked to call them, ones that Akane never fully understood. Women stayed at home and obeyed their husband, children stayed in the basement and did not speak unless spoken to. Akane's life was a living hell, every day getting worse and worse as she aged. A lot of things happened while she lived in the basement during her childhood that she refuses to dwell on even now, as a full grown adult. Some memories she chooses not to remember, and others are locked so far back in her mind that she cannot access them if she even wanted to. If it was not for Joy, one of her father's other "wives", who would sneak down into the basement every now and then when her father was gone and talk to her a little, Akane might have never learned how to even talk or felt a lick of kindness as a child.
When she ten, she managed to escape the house with the help of Joy. Akane had made it to Viridian City unscathed, but as for Joy, she had been captured within a few hours of leaving the house. Akane still does not know what happened to her, and she is not exactly sure if she ever wants to know. Nothing good could have came out of Joy being captured. Akane still has vicious nightmares about escaping. In her dreams, her father always catches her and makes her suffer for running away.
After being sheltered for most of her life, the real world was terrifying. Joy had always told her stories about Pokemon, cities, and various other aspects of life, but Akane had never experienced any of those things. She was scared of everything at first, and new things seemed to be tossed at her from every which way. One thing, however, was probably the biggest blessing that Akane could have ever received. Once she had arrived in Viridian City, she took to pickpocketing and hiding out in the alleyways, getting into trouble and always on the run. But one night, an elderly couple took her in and out of the goodness of their hearts, gave her supplies and told her to head towards Vermillion City, where a friend of theirs would gladly take her in and give her a home where she would be safe and not have to worry about her father finding her. Before she left, they gave her a young pichu, which she named Kei. He was not particularly strong, as was expected of a baby Pokemon, but he and Akane managed to make it all the way to Vermillion City, gathering three other team mates on the way there- a bulbasaur, skunky, and seviper.
Once in Vermillion City, Akane began to have mixed feelings about whether or not she should still find the elderly couple's friend. After all, it could be a trap and this person could be a police officer, who wanted to take her back home to her father after she had worked so hard to make it to safety. She spent a couple weeks in the forest, training her Pokemon and stealing what she needed to until she was caught by the owner of the Vermillion City. She had tried to run, but she had been no match for the big and burly owner, who threw her over his shoulder and and carried her inside. Incredibly long story short, Akane realized that the owner was actually the person the elderly couple had sent her to find. The owner laughed and told her she was forgiven and could stay, granted that she stopped stealing and helped out around the shop. Akane tentatively agreed, and the owner ended up legally adopting her. She finally had a home where she was free to come and go as she pleased (as long as she was back by nine), and where she never had to worry about being hurt ever again. She began to train her Pokemon team and was loved watching them grow, and once she turned eighteen, Lt. Surge had stepped down from his position as the Vermillion gym leader and Akane ended up taking his place, transforming it from electric to poison.
Two years ago, the Vermillion Pokemart was broken into and the owner was shot, leaving Akane, who had trouble forming bonds with people, was left alone and devastated. She's been pretty lost since then and has no idea where to go or what to do with her life, so at the moment, she's just hanging around as the poison-type gym leader of the Kanto region.
