POKÉMON TRAINERAs the name implies, Pokémon Trainers are people who catch, train, and battle with pokémon. Many would consider it a right of passage that all of the regions hold in common. Because of this, it isn't quite strange for someone to travel at the ripe age of ten with nothing but the pokémon that they were raised and grew up with. A very few are given pokémon from a professor, the most famous of these are known as the pokédex holders. It isn't uncommon for them to travel to one or more regions in order to perfect their technique, collect gym badges and more commonly, aim to become a pokémon master.
POKÉMON COORDINATORUnlike Pokemon Trainers, Pokemon Coordinators focus on making their moves breathtaking. What they strive for is to make their pokémon put on a dazzling show that is sure to take hold of the audience and pull them in for a swirl of moves that they might not have even imagined used that way before. From their offensive attacks to their defensive attacks, each move they make is meant to show off their pokémon.
Following this example, Coordinator Battles are meant to do the very same. Whether their pokémon fainted or not, is a factor into their overall score, however, it is rarely the deciding vote. Defending a deathly blow in an uncoordinated like fashion may result in losing more points than actually taking it.
GYM LEADERA gym leader is a person who may as well be considered the guardian of a city or town. When there is real trouble, for example Team Rocket trouble, they are the first to stand out and defend their town from such danger.
They test Pokémon Trainers and their pokémon through gym battles in order to help them not only participate but prepare for the Pokémon League. Other than this, they are in charge of their own gym, making it reflect not only their pokémon type, but giving them an environment where their pokémon would thrive. While they also teach young people how to battle, they do pick up a few of them to become gym trainers, who assist them in battling those who plan on challenging a gym.
There are a few cases where they are also the city's mayor. One good example of this is Elesa of Nimbasa City.
ELITE FOURWhile they were organized differently in the past, they are now organized by the famous Pokémon Association. The elite four are select members by the Association, the most famous of the five members in each region is the current reigning champion. Each of them are highly skilled pokémon trainers, and it wouldn't be surprising if they have specialized in a particular elemental type. In fact, there are only two known members that do not have a particular elemental type.
They are often called upon in times where there is extreme, world threatening danger or if there is trouble among the gym leaders. Other than this, they act as ambassadors for the Pokémon Association. To put it simply, other than keeping the balance and acting similar to the Rangers, they have no other job than to be a pretty face. Because of this, many of them have their own hobbies and other jobs on the side. There are times where they are ordered -- or well, more politely "asked," to do things by famous pokémon professors or gym leaders and even Pokémon Association.
These ideals that they're supposed to uphold are: appear to be the "untouchable" trainer, to walk with grace and/or charisma, become the person who is easily idolized by the people, obtain and train powerful pokémon. Of course, the elite four members follow this in their own ways. The roguish charm of those from Kanto is a good example of this.
CITIZENThis is the "catch all" group for all of those not wanting to join in gym battles, or contests. Generally, they don't even take pokémon battling seriously. Those in this group are often pokémon researchers and pokemon breeders. Of course, people in this group do not have to be pokémon researchers or breeders. They may have other jobs, like owning a restaurant or having a cabbage cart.
POKÉMON RESEARCHERSAs its title implies, Pokémon Researchers are scientists focusing on one area of the pokémon world and may consider themselves to be an experts on that subject. The most famous of these are Professors Oak, Elm, Birch, Rowan, and now, Juniper and Juniper Sr. While they are famous in a particular region, they may travel around to different region in order to gain new information on pokémon.
POKÉMON BREEDERSThey're people who carefully raise and decide which pairs of pokémon would mate with to reproduce specific improvements in their kin, such as moves, talents, or natures. The most known of these reside near and/or at Pokémon Day Cares. They raise a large number of varied Pokémon, generally maintaining a balanced team, although they are often weak compared to other trainers. Typically, they don't care for pokémon battles, preferring to take a more passive route..
