MAXWELL C. SMITH 13 | MALE | CHERRYGROVE | TRAINER/BREEDER | RESISTANCE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With a Big Smile On My Face And It Never Feels Outta Place |
BASIC; Max stands at roughly five feet and seven inches tall, nothing too unusual, with shaggy, slightly dark brown hair and light green-blue eyes. It's usually cut to look rough, and he rarely cuts it above his ears. Any long bouts of it are usually tucked behind his ears whenever he's talking to someone, usually a human, however any other time, he has it going every which way. It's obvious that he rarely cares about how he looks, really. His skin is slightly tanned with some obvious scratches and scars that are hard to tell from his natural skin color, thus giving the appearance that he has none unless he purposely points them out for others to see, which is usually whenever he is asked.
CLOTHING; It can't be said that his apparel is any different from anyone elses. He sometimes wears a ball cap, which bears the symbol for the Pokemon League on front, however it looks strange with his normally poofy-like hair. It's colored white and red, of course, with red being his favored color, of course. He wears a brown, leather looking jacket - of which he always states as his 'lucky' one - with a rather fancy collar and zips up. His shirt is usually either a black or white t-shirt underneath, sometimes bearing a Pokeball on the front. He also wears a necklace with a black string that bears two, rather fake, Pokeballs and a little plastic figurine of a Charizard on it, as well as a few colored beads. His favored pants are usually blue jeans, always looking dirty and sometimes torn up. He also wears a pair of running shoes for easy running, however they are obviously torn up a bit, if not looking like they may fall apart.
Around his waist, he wears a belt obviously built for carrying Pokeballs and other things, although he makes sure to keep an on them in case something goes wrong. He also carries around a messenger-type bag used for storage of all his items and whatnot, with a flap that covers the front and opens via snapping hooks apart, however those are rarely locked together. Max says it's for easier access, although that sometimes is hard to believe.

OUTGOING; A rather outgoing person indeed, Max usually is the one to try and meet new friends or to introduce himself first if someone already hasn't made the first move. Well, if someone looks like they're willing to put up with that, of course. Some people might say that this may be a little intimidating or even annoying, it's hard not to return the same goofy smile that he has on his face. He knows when to keep his distance, of course, and, although not good at reading people, he can at least try and tell by someones outward expressions. People make mistakes, of course, although, for Max, this is primarily due to the fact that if he sees someone upset and/or crying, he usually won't hesitate in going and asking them if they're alright.
HELPFUL; As well as outgoing, Max is very friendly and helpful, too. If you look like you've been having a rough/bad day, or if something is wrong, he'll usually offer up the best advice he has, or ask if you need any help with whatever problem you may have. He'll back off when asked, of course, though it's hard not to help someone who, say, just got their Pokemon stolen or are lost and need to get somewhere quickly. He's also willing to help others in different ways, too, such as training Pokemon or searching for a specific kind if he has the time or is not doing anything at the moment that is gravely important.
ATHLETIC; Athletic and energetic are two words that fit Max very well. He's rather energetic in the fact that he mostly likes walking and running places rather than taking a car or plane or Pokemon, if he is able to do so [he likes swimming, of course, although some places, it's hard to swim without the aid of a Pokemon]. He believes that walking the distance helps improve himself as a trainer and makes him a better one, too, and also helps him keep up with his Pokemon, too. It's easier to train his Pokemon, too, because it would be harder to find wild Pokemon and Trainers to battle if he flew or drove everywhere rather than walked. That, and who doesn't like walking on a beautiful, sunny day?
HARD HEADED; This couldn't be stressed much more, really. Once Max sets his eyes on something, he rarely gives up on it unless given a good reason to. It's hard for him to give up on things, really, and tries his hardest to complete things as well. Training is usually on the top of his list, and, although he seems rather carefree about everything, even training, he usually trains to the best of both his and his Pokemon's abilities, even if it sometimes means pushing them to their limits. He knows when to stop, of course, as he wouldn't be that cruel, however, to gain victory, friendship, and even trust, you have to earn it; you can't simply sit around and do nothing in order to get it, and usually everyone he knows agrees with this.Surprisingly.
TRUSTFUL; A very trusting and trustful person, it's hard for Max to tell lies, as well as hard for him to give away a secret unless something bad will happen if he doesn't. He's naturally a good person, so it's natural that he can be trusted with a lot of things, from secrets and discoveries to even taking care of a Pokemon for whatever reason for an amount of time. Most people think of him being naive for this, however, you can't make friends by being mean and giving secrets away and not being able to help others with their problems. He's also very trusting, to an extent. He'll trust just about anyone he meets right off the bat, however, if someone looks or acts suspicious to him, he'll be more cautious around them than before, though he'll try his best not to act like it.
POKEMON FANATIC; Pokemon are creatures that Max simply adores, without a doubt. Probably more so than humans, believe it or not. He rarely cares about Pokemon type and species, but rather, what they can do. Every Pokemon can be strong, as he says, and deserve to at least try and show that to their trainers if they want. If not, well, they also have the right to ask to be released if need be. Or, at least, if he can understand them. Max often tries to become good friends with his Pokemon, rather than 'masters', 'owners,' or simply a bad person to them. You really can't try and train a Pokemon and get them to do what you want unless they like you. Can't boss your enemies around you know?
TEAM ROCKET; These are a band of people that he simply does not like. He's rarely heard anything good about them, and, from what he's seen on the television, they don't try and do good, either. He simply hates them, to put it simply, and 'hate' is a word rarely used in his vocabulary. He hopes to train his Pokemon to become strong to that he can hopefully help take them down, and end their evil among the people. He doesn't like Pokemon being taken away from their humans unless under certain circumstances, and it doesn't seem that Team Rocket are trying to help Pokemon at all.

HISTORY
Max was born in the great region of Johto in a hospital in Goldenrod to an Alexis and James Smith. His father from Goldenrod himself, and his mother from Twinleaf in Sinnoh, both were small town people, and had moved in to Cherrygrove prior to Max's birth, wanting their children - or rather, child - to have a normal and quiet life rather than live in a big city, where everything and everyone seemed to be bustling and moving constantly. So Cherrygrove was where he spent the majority of his childhood, rarely leaving the outskirts of the city except for to go and visit his grandparents, who lived on a decent sized farm on the outskirts of Azalea.
Being that his grandparents - his father's parents - owned a farm, having bought it and thus began raising Pokemon there since his father started his Pokemon journey, had many Pokemon, as well as his parents having Pokemon - a few having been moved to a permeate home on his grandparent's home due to lack of space in their house - in their custody, Max grew up with Pokemon all his life. Many were as old as he was, and as patient as his grandparents when it came to watching him and mock battling each other if he so asked, as well as putting up with him whenever he went to clambering around, underneath, and on them, as well as a few baby ones that were born every so often that he loved taking care of and helping train. A few had even become stater Pokemon in different regions due to their species, of which, his mother said, were common as starters in the main regions.
Growing up like this, Max earned much respect for Pokemon and had learned many things about them, like how to take care of them properly and what type worked both well and poorly against what, and even how to train them easier so they would get stronger, faster. And, as sappy as it may sound, he learned to like Pokemon as friends and family rather than just tools to use as he pleased. Many became in tutors in learning how to treat Pokemon, as well as how to act with different personalities of Pokemon .
One of his favorite Pokemon that he made friends with was a small Chimchar he had named Orion, from the star constellation. He had been born when Max was roughly four or so years old [the parents being his mother's Infernape when she was a co-ordinatior/breeder herself, and his father's Electabuzz from when he was a trainer], Max being being lucky enough to watch the egg hatch. It was lucky that it was the summer, otherwise his parents might not have let him stay more than a month, as he commonly did anyway during the summer and when he was younger, to help take care of the youngster. After a couple weeks and learning how to walk and get around on his own, Orion was allowed to stay in the guest bed along with Max, his grandparents seeing that if his mother was not around, Orion rather like the company of Max more than anything. It took a long time of convincing to get Max's mother to let him keep the Chimp Pokemon, with a lot of arguing on even his father's part, before Max was able to bring the little Pokemon home.
Many days after preschool and kindergarten were spent playing out in Cherygrove and it's limits with one or two of his parent's Pokemon and Orion playing in the tall grass, smelling the flowers and looking and gawking at the creatures that swam in shallow waters. Upon arriving to trainer's school, Max got many stares as he was one of the few who was able to bring his own Pokemon to school. He was not allowed to battle with Orion at first, of course, because they were learning the basics, although playing and mock-battling was commonly saved for after school and when he finished his homework.
During the summer between his third and fourth grade year, when he was at his grandparents during his birthday, he received a present from his grandparents; it was an egg, his grandmother saying that they had received it from a training, the young man informing them that he had received it from one of the dock workers in Olivine [although he didn't ask where the dock worker had picked it up from] and, having no need for another Pokemon on his team at the moment, had needed somewhere to drop it off. Passing through Azalea, he had heard about their little farm, and had offered it to them, knowing they would probably give the Pokemon inside of it a better home. They happily accepted, and perhaps the trainer had a better insight then even they did; Max wouldn't stop goading over the egg, and he and Orion watched over it constantly. His father even joked that with how much they were tending to it, they were probably scaring the Pokemon to stay in there until they left it alone.
Right before their needed leave from his grandparents, Max finally got to see the egg hatch. Out came a little Oshawott, feisty as even Max as it tried to stumble around and get a grip on his surroundings. Max named him Polaris, mostly because the name sounded like it fit the Pokemon's attitude. The little Pokemon was allowed to tag along during their small journey home, obviously enjoying his new family.
Unlike most children his age, Max was more happy to go to school than anything, if only so he can learn more about Pokemon than he already knew. Of course, it upset him that at the age of ten, most of his peers and friends were starting out on their journey in different regions and he was still in school, due to the fact that A.) his mother wanted him to learn more about Pokemon before starting on his journey, and B.) she was worried about the rising strength of Team Rocket, and, although he trusted his son could handle himself in most situations, his father agreed that he could use a little more knowledge before going out into the world. During this time, Max was lucky enough to make a new friend as well.
As per usual, after coming home and finishing his schoolwork, Max quickly ventured outside with his two Pokemon companions and another Pokemon belonging to his father, an Ampharos, and to the outskirts of his hometown to play outside with his Pokemon. True, for an eleven year old, the term playing was a little immature, although Max rarely did, and does, care about what others thought and think of himself. It's what he thinks of himself, right? So out he was, running and playing with his younger Pokemon while Ampharos watched from a distance rather quietly. As they were playing in the tall grass, making a strange game of hide and seek, Max managed to get himself deeper into said grass before realizing how far he had actually gotten himself into it. That moment came when he tripped over something - he now recalls it to maybe he a branch or rock, or maybe even himself - and falling out of the grass and onto flat land. He rather hurt his nose, thank you very much, although, at the time he wasn't worried about that; he was more worried about where he was.
It took a small amount of walking and searching before at least Orion found him; the Chimp Pokemon looking rather frantic and trying to tell the boy something, even though he couldn't understand him at all. After much debate and charades, the duo managed to try and find their own way out of the tall grass, Max walking with Orion on his shoulders like a little child and taking watch. It was a long walk, it seemed, and it took a while of dodging through grass and around rocks and trees before they ran into another life form. Just not the way they expected. Max began to hear crying of some sort, and, thinking it was a child being attacked by a Pokemon or something like that, had taken off towards it, albeit to much of Orion's disdain when he started running.
Just as they neared a small clearing where Max thought the crying was coming from, a small figure darted out of the tall grass, knocking him over and sending Orion flying. It was a rather hard hit, and Max was sure it knocked the air out of him. When Max finally got his vision back, he found that he was oddly staring back at an Abra, of whom sat on his chest. It looked like it was injured, or something close to it, and it looked like it had been crying. When the little Pokemon realized it was staring back at, it instantly scattered off of Max and scooted back as far as it could, Orion looking just as confused as his trainer as he clambered up next to him. Needless to say, the little Pokemon was terrified of something, and it obviously couldn't teleport for whatever reason, otherwise it might have already.
It took a bit of convincing, however Max managed to gain it's trust, and, after a moment of hesitation, the little Abra ended up nearly tackling the boy again as it ran up to hug him. Holding the little Pokemon against him - and, oddly enough, getting a feeling of sadness and fright from somewhere other than himself - Max and Orion started out into the clearing to see if they could find out what happened to the Abra. They found nothing, to their dismay, besides a few scuff marks and broken tree branches and scattered sticks and rocks that showed that there was a fight that had gone on, and, unable to think of anything else to do that might help the little creature, Max headed back home with both Pokemon, stopping along the way to catch up with Ampharos and Polaris, both of whom who had met up outside the city in the hopes of running into the boy before they had to go back in.
Max had never really been the one to bring home Pokemon before, seeing as how his mother never wanted to have them in the first place unless they were properly caught and had Pokeballs to stay in when needed, however, being that the Abra was injured and they couldn't find anyone it belonged to, it was hard for her to say no. The Abra seemed to mind little of staying with the human family and their Pokemon, although he took more to Max and his Pokemon, and would often hide away whenever Max was at school, which did not make his mother happy.
The urge to start traveling with his Pokemon started not too long ago; Max had heard about Team Rocket and their dealings in Kanto, and the more he heard about it, the more it was hard for him to not not want go. His father was becoming more and more on his side, and it wasn't too long before his mother finally gave him, but making him promise to check in whenever he could and make sure to constantly go to a Pokemon Center to heal his Pokemon. Not that those conditions bothered him much. Almost not enough time passed before they got him all the necessary items for his adventure, as well as a boat pass for the ship in Olivine so he could go to Kanto. His dad had taken him down there, and it was a rather sad moment as they waved goodbye to each other, Max from the ship and his dad on land.
The excitement for battle and fighting the Elite Four was probably the only thing that met that. Well, and fighting Team Rocket, of course.
